SHREVEPORT, LA — Shreveport police say they have arrested Javieon Abbott in the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Shamichael Russell, who died after being wounded Monday evening near an apartment complex basketball court. Two other juveniles, ages 2 and 17, were also injured in the same shooting.
Abbott has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, and detectives say additional charges are expected as the investigation continues. Police said the case remains active as investigators work through the evidence gathered at the scene and in the hours after the shooting.
How the shooting unfolded near Buncombe Road
Officers were called to Olde Salem Village Apartments, at 6725 Buncombe Road, after gunfire was reported near the basketball court. When police arrived, they found three juveniles who had been struck by bullets, according to Shreveport police.
Russell suffered what police described as life-threatening injuries and later died. The two other victims, a toddler and a teenager, were hurt as detectives began piecing together what happened at the apartment complex. Police have not released details about what led to the shooting or how the victims were involved.

Shreveport police said the case was supported by the Gator Task Force, with help from Louisiana State Police and the FBI. Officials said those personnel, resources, and assets helped detectives move the investigation forward.
The assistance points to the scale of the response in a case involving a child’s death and injuries to two other young people. Police did not say what specific role each agency played, but they credited the multi-agency effort with helping bring the arrest forward.
