Whether it’s finding the perfect outfit or mastering dance moves, Prom prep is more than just a simple checklist, it’s the crucial steps to a promising night that teens will remember for years.
While most students are busy planning to go shopping or find the perfect color, the real behind-the-scenes starts with the Prom committee, where our school’s leadership team works tirelessly to bring the event to life. ASB President Maxim Peres (‘25) describes how leadership divides into committees to organize an event. Peres explains that as an event leader of Prom, he is in charge of contacting other event leaders and providing them with the details that are “necessary to ensure things move smoothly.” While it seems fun to be in charge of planning Prom, it is quite the responsibility. Peres mentioned some obstacles he has encountered while planning and explains, “It can be hard to get everything done on time because the venue has other events they’re doing, and we only have a window of time when we can put stuff up.” Despite these challenges, the committee works hard to make Prom a successful and enjoyable night for all.
Along with Peres, Sydney Boyle (’26) is also on the committee for Prom. Boyle explains how planning an event like Prom differs from planning a rally. Rather than planning within a few months in advance, the committee has been generating ideas for Prom since the beginning of the school year such as creating a checklist in November to organize the event. To complete the checklist, she and her leadership classmates work together to narrow down the theme, food menu, and activities. After the early months of planning, the focus shifts towards getting ready for the dance.
Despite not being on the Prom committee, the three months leading up to the dance are just as busy for all upperclassmen in the school, in fact, many would say they’re nerve-wracking. During this time, most students purchase their outfits, such as a formal dress or tuxedo, coordinate with friends and family to take photos, find dates, and make bouquets or purchase corsages and boutonnieres.
For many juniors, this will be their first Prom, making the night even more memorable. Andrew Booker (‘26), like other first-time attendees, has expressed great enthusiasm about the event sharing, “I’m most excited to spend time with my friends and really enjoy the experience.”
Overall, Prom prep is a mix of excitement and anticipation, and with a lot of planning, it becomes an unforgettable experience that everyone will cherish for years to come.
