Here at Willow Glen High School, we are lucky to have a number of amazing teachers to inspire and guide all of our students. In this article, we want to highlight some Willow Glen legends that we simply could not imagine our school without.
First, we have Dr. Milgram. Dr. Milgram has been teaching at our school for a decade. Prior to Willow Glen, he was a part of the research faculty at the University of Pennsylvania on human malaria. With his highly impressive science background, he teaches a variety of classes including chemistry, Principles of Biomedical Sciences, and Medical Intervention. His extensive knowledge on all things science allows him to introduce his students to complicated topics in a well thought out manner. Dr. Milgram believes that it is “a privilege to teach,” and that watching so many students go on to achieve great things is truly rewarding. He loves that he has the opportunity to teach high school students, as he can “get them interested in serious science, technology, engineering, arts, and math,” and hopefully kick start their careers into adulthood.
Next up, we have Mr. Andres, who has taught at our school for thirty-one years, starting in 1994. He currently teaches Film Studies and Advanced Film, encouraging his students to explore film as an art form and to make films of their own. “I think it’s important to know how to read a film in the way that you would read a novel,” Mr. Andres mentions when asked about the importance of what he does. To him, teaching is almost a “monastic way of life,” in the sense that he gets to meditate on his subject of choice with students every day, and gets to watch them “learn more than [he] did in the past.” He expresses his concerns on students relying too heavily on the internet for education, mentioning that “it’s important for young students to find an authority [on an academic subject] that they can trust… one that’s able to provide straight, simple answers to their questions.” In his spare time, he enjoys gardening and tree trimming. “It’s a lot like editing a film,” he adds.
On behalf of all Willow Glen High School students, our staff at the Ram Pages wants to shout out both of these wonderful teachers for doing what they do best. Keep up the great work!
